Consultations
Substance-use consultations (vaping, nicotine, cannabis, prescription drugs, etc.) consist of a 30-60 minute one-on-one educational appointment. To make an appointment, please contact Emily Edilian at eedlilian@uci.edu, call 949-824-0346, or book a meeting time.
Types of Substances
Our office provides education on a wide range of substances, which we collectively refer to as “Other Drugs.” These include both illegal substances and prescription medications that may be misused. Below are some of the substances college students are most likely to encounter:
- Cannabis
- Cannabis (marijuana, weed), THC, CBD, Delta-8 THC, Delta-9 THC, indica, sativa, hybrid strains
- Nicotine & Tobacco Products
- Nicotine, cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco, vapes/e-cigarettes, hookah, nicotine pouches
- Stimulants
- Cocaine, Meth (amphetamines), Adderall, Ritalin, Vyvanse, Concerta, MDMA (ecstasy, molly)
- Opioids
- Prescription opioids, Vicodin, oxycodone, hydrocodone, codeine, tramadol, morphine, fentanyl, heroin
- Depressants
- Xanax, Ativan, Valium, Klonopin, Benzodiazepines, Ambien and other sleeping medications
- Psychedelics / Hallucinogens
- LSD (acid), mushrooms (psilocybin), DMT, salvia, mescaline
- Dissociatives
- Ketamine, PCP, DXM (cough medicine)
- Inhalants
- Nitrous Oxide (whippets), Poppers, compressed air/duster, aerosol sprays, glue and solvents
- Emerging/Miscellaneous Substances
- Kratom, Kava, synthetic cannabinoids (K2, Spice), other psychoactive products sold as supplements or “legal highs”

- Explore healthier coping strategies and alternatives to substance use

- Learn how to recognize when someone needs emergency medical help and what steps to take
- Gain the confidence to call for help during an overdose or other substance-related emergency
- Connect with campus and community resources when additional support is needed.
